UrgentCast (Texting) Guide

Set-up UrgentCast

  1. Click your name in the top right corner
  2. Click Setup
  3. Click Messages
  4. Open the Broadcast Module Settings Accordion
  5. Click "Activate Module"
  6. Enter & Save the email address that will receive all billing notifications
    (Note: The email address can be edited by clicking the Alerts tab to the right)
  7. Enter & Save the debit/credit card information
    (Note: The debit/credit card entered will be charged once per month on the date the texting feature is originally set up)
  8. Click the red "Buy a Number" button towards the bottom of the page
  9. Enter the school's Area Code and click Search
  10. Click the check mark to the right of the desired phone number
    (Note: The phone number selected will be the number seen by those who receive text messages from the school. This number can be edited by clicking "Buy A Number.")

Usage

The number of text message "segments" sent per month can be read by those with MySchoolWorx Administrator accounts by doing the following:

Note: When a school administrator sends a text message, the number of "segments" in that single text message depends on the length of the text message. One message "segment" equals 153 characters and spaces combined, including the subject line. If a single text message contains 154 characters and spaces, then a school would be charged for 2 message segments per recipient for that one “text message.”

Example: A short 120 character message (one segment) to 100 parents and staff would cost $1.50 (100 x $0.015 = $1.50) A single 154 character/spaced text message (two segments) to 100 parents and staff would cost $3.00 (200 x $0.015 = $3.00)

To view usage

  1. Click your name in the top right corner
  2. Click Setup
  3. Click Messages
  4. Open the Broadcast Module Settings Accordion
  5. Click the "Usage" tab

Payment Methods

When setting up UrgentCast, a primary debit/credit card was entered. By doing the following, those with MySchoolWorx Administrator accounts can edit the primary debit/credit card and also add a secondary debit/credit card as a back-up:

  1. Click your name in the top right corner
  2. Click Setup
  3. Click Messages
  4. Open the Broadcast Module Settings Accordion
  5. Click the "Payment Methods" tab

View payments (Debit/Credit card charges)

Credit/Debit cards will be charged once per month on the date the feature was enabled for the school for the total usage for the previous month's usage. 

Each charge to the primary or secondary debit/credit card can be read by those with MySchoolWorx Administrator accounts by doing the following:

  1. Click your name in the top right corner
  2. Click Setup
  3. Click Messages
  4. Open the "Broadcast Module Settings" accordion
  5. Click the "Payments" tab
